Anonymity in Zoom AA

Protecting your privacy and anonymity in virtual AA meetings

Anonymity in a Digital World

In our rapidly changing world, virtual meetings have become essential for maintaining our fellowship. Here's how to protect your anonymity while participating in online AA meetings through Zoom.

Personal Anonymity in an Online Zoom Meeting

How to maintain anonymity in an online Zoom meeting

🏷️ Change Your Display Name

You can change your name before joining a meeting for complete anonymity.

Tip: Use only your first name and last initial, or even a preferred nickname if needed.

🎥 Video Privacy

  • If you're concerned about your house showing in the background, sit with your back facing a wall
  • You can always disable your video if you're concerned about being seen on camera
  • You can temporarily turn off your camera and turn it back on if needed

📞 Audio Privacy

  • You can dial in from your phone so that only your phone number appears and no video shows
  • Use headphones if you don't want others in your household to hear
  • Mute yourself when not speaking to protect privacy

📢 Share the Big News - Responsibly

Please feel free to share our website, meeting information and resources with those in the recovery AA community, but please be respectful of others.

⚠️ Important Security Guidelines:

  • Never share logins or passwords with others
  • • Trusted Servants will help others get access as needed
  • • Think of meeting credentials like giving someone a key to the building
  • • Protect the group's virtual space as you would a physical clubhouse
